Mathematics at Orchard Academy

At Orchard Academy, we want our children to be able to think like Mathematicians and provide them with the necessary financial literacy and mathematical knowledge in preparation for the next step in their educational journey and beyond.

The teaching and learning priorities, including conceptual understanding, variation and thinking mathematically aim for our children to develop their problem solving, reasoning and fluency skills. Our Maths curriculum aims to secure conceptual knowledge that they can build on by making connections and identifying and understanding patterns, using manipulatives, modelling and representations, and fostering and maintaining a curiosity about mathematics in the world around us, applying this knowledge to other areas of the curriculum. This is organised into a progression model that outlines the skills, knowledge and vocabulary to be taught in a sequentially coherent way in order to build mathematical understanding systematically over time.
