Orchard Academy will be able to provide extra support to their disadvantaged families thanks to a generous donation from recruitment agency Dunbar Education.
The specialist education recruitment agency, which regularly works with Orchard Academy to recruit teachers, has gifted £300 to the Springfield school.
The donation will be used to provide food parcels to families who may be struggling with money, particularly during the current lockdown period.
George Perrott, senior education recruitment specialist at Dunbar Education, said: “We have worked very closely with Orchard Academy this year and we really wanted to build on our long-standing relationship and give something back to a local primary school.
“We hope this donation from us will help them to continue supporting families in need.”
Callum Brown, headteacher at Orchard Academy, said: “We have an awful lot of disadvantaged families, many of whom we provide meal boxes for if they are in dire circumstances and in real immediate need.
“This money could go a long way to providing more food boxes containing things like pasta and rice, which will make a huge difference to some of our families.”
Assistant headteacher Jonathan Wilson added: “Many of our families have unfortunately had to access foodbanks in recent times and so if we have a bank of food here, we can support those families.”
